Elite but not international male. Compared to Rio 2016 volleyball cohort, 35%ile height, 12%ile weight. So small/light for a male volleyballer. Abreu is now, compared with females, 94%ile height and 95%ile weight. So tall/heavy for a female volleyballer.

In their first season as woman, Abreu broke the Brazilian female record for most points scored in a match.

Abreu is ranked in the Brazil elite female category. This is achieved by accruing performance points. There are only a handful of players of the same ‘rank’. Owing to restrictions on how many different teams can be represented in this ‘Hall of Fame’, Abreu’s ascension displaced *two* international female volleyballers.

Abreu was never selected for the male Brazil national squad. Widely (and reasonably) assumed to be a sure-fire Tokyo pick in the female team.

By switching category Abreu has gained an advantage simply from their height and weight (ignoring any other markers of physiology).
